Downs Syndrome Derby

Catering Academy help Lesotho build water pump lifeline
  • Down's Syndrome – Derby has existed for almost twenty years – first as a branch of the National Down’s Syndrome Association and more recently as a registered charity in its own right.
  • The group adopts an holistic approach to support and welcomes children and adults with Down's Syndrome, their parents and carers, siblings, extended families and professionals working within the health and education sectors.
  • Their activities are widespread and numerous and include the provision of a listening ear and reassurance for new parents; the opportunity for children to develop through play at monthly parent and child groups;
  • the purchase of specialist resources for health visitors and support teachers to use with the families; activities for young adults to take part independently of their immediate family; information evenings;
  • a Speech and Language Therapy programme; picnics and parties for everyone to come together to share positive experiences as well as raising awareness of challenges to come. The list goes on and on.....
  • "Downs Derby stated "We are very grateful to Catering Academy for their support during 2009. The donation has been split to fund two of our costliest initiatives – the presents that Santa gives to all the children at our Christmas
  • Party were fully covered and the remainder funded three months provision of our Speech and Language programme. Thank you."
